Short Story
On Sunday the 15th of September 2024, I will be running 23km to celebrate my 23rd birthday, and in doing so, hope to raise funds for the Amathuba Foundation. I will also be motivating others to join me in this challenge, as well as contribute towards this cause. People joining me will be encouraged to contribute towards funding this cause, or anyone can offer contributions towards the Amathuba Foundation per km of this run.
The funds raised will go towards the Amathuba Foundation’s mentees and assisting with project costs that enable mentees to get what they need.
The run will start in Nottingham Road, and proceed out towards Fort Nottingham, ending on Highflight Farm, along the D290 road. Runners can either run a portion of the distance or the full 23km with me, as well as be transported back to their cars at the start, after the end of the run.

Story
The Amathuba Foundation exists to facilitate opportunities for learners at educational centers of excellence. The purpose of these opportunities is to bring out the best in these individuals by placing them in an environment in which they can thrive. The stories of these transformed lives will in turn inspire their families and greater communities, with the hope that one day these learners will be in a position to contribute to social change, themselves, in South Africa.
OUR MODEL
The Amathuba Foundation practices a part-funding model. The partner school, the Amathuba Foundation, and a learners’ caregiver are all responsible for funding a learner’s high school years.
The Amathuba Foundation believes in mentorship. A successful opportunity is not fully realised through funding alone. Real success is measured by how much a learner feels a sense of belonging within their learning space, where they can truly thrive. Which is why, through relationship, Amathuba Foundation can show learners that “how you feel matters”. This is why Amathuba Foundation invest in constant relationship building and mentorship where our recipients are given a voice. Amathuba Foundation don’t believe any recipient should simply ‘say the right thing and appreciate the opportunity’ and assimilate to their environment.
Our B-CRIGG mentorship programme, offered by young adult members of Amathuba and in partnership with champion teachers, runs congruently with the academic programme for the five years of their high school career.
Through this mentorship programme Amathuba Foundation focus on our core values: BELONGING, COMPASSION, RELATIONSHIPS, INTEGRITY, GRATITUDE and GENEROSITY.
